Taking a cold Plunge for Special Olympics

The Central Arkansas Polar Plunge will take place Saturday at Maumelle with registration opening at 10:30 a.m. and plunges into Lake Willastein beginning at 1 p.m.

In this annual fundraiser for Special Olympics Arkansas, participants ages 12 and up make a donation of at least $50 per person and plunge into the lake. Plungers form teams and wear costumes.

Awards will be presented for the best costumed team as well as the best individual and duo costumes. There will also be awards for best individual and team fundraisers. Each donation secures an event T-shirt, and extra swag is available to fundraisers who hit certain monetary benchmarks.

Want to donate but don't feel like an ice-cube bath? Official "I Chickened Out" long-sleeve T-shirts cost $25.

Not going to be around Dec. 10? There will be other Polar Plunges around the state during the first three months of 2017.
