COMMENTS This is the fourth year for the Live United Bowl. … It is the first postseason appearance for both teams since 2012 when SAU lost 36-35 to McMurry in the Heart of Texas Bowl and Texas A&M-Kingsville lost 45-38 to Emporia State in the Kanza Bowl. … With the victory over Arkansas-Monticello in the regular-season finale, SAU reached the nine-victory mark for the seventh time and the first time since 2003. The Muleriders were picked to finish fifth in the Great American Conference in a preseason poll of the league’s head coaches. … The Muleriders had 13 players earn All-GAC honors, led by lone first-team selection junior defensive lineman Travis Williams of Jackson, Miss. … Second-team All-GAC quarterback sophomore Barrett Renner of Rowlett, Texas, set school records for completions (259), completion percentage (65.9) and for completions in a game (37 against Arkansas Tech on Sept. 24). … The Javelinas finished third in the Lone Star Conference and are averaging 39.6 points per game and 333.3 yards of total offense. … Texas A&M-Kingsville finished the regular season on a seven-game winning streak. … First-team All-Lone Star kicker Julio De la Garza was successful on 10 of 13 field goals, 50 of 52 extra points and successfully recovered two of his own onside kicks.
