WICHITA, Kan. — A poor fourth quarter sunk the Arkansas State women’s basketball team in a loss to Wichita State on Friday afternoon at Charles Koch Arena.

The Red Wolves (0-6) trailed 46-40 at the end of the third quarter, but the Shockers outscored the Red Wolves 23-11 in the final quarter. Wichita State (3-4) put the game away with a 7-0 run in a span of 35 seconds to extend its lead to 61-45 with 4:27 to go. The margin grew to as much as 20 points.

“I loved the way we competed, and especially on the defensive end, I thought we competed as well as we have in any game this season,” Arkansas State Coach Brian Boyer said in a news release.

“We just couldn’t sustain it for a full game, but we certainly showed improvement.”

Akasha Westbrook led Arkansas State with 17 points, six of which came during an 8-0 Red Wolves run that cut their deficit to 39-38 with 2:39 left in the third quarter. The Red Wolves would get no closer.

Wichita State shot 51.9 percent (28 of 54) from the field, while Arkansas State made 31.0 percent (18 of 58) of its shot attempts.

The Red Wolves forced the Shockers into 24 turnovers, but the Red Wolves committed 20 turnovers, seven of which came in the game’s final seven minutes.

Lauren Bradshaw chipped in nine points and eight rebounds for the Red Wolves.

CENTRAL ARKANSAS 102, CROWLEY’S RIDGE 31

CONWAY — Taylor Strickland’s 20 points led six Sugar Bears with 10 or more points in a rout of Crowley’s Ridge College on Friday night at the Farris Center.

Maddie Goodner scored 13, Raquel Logan and Maggie Proffitt had 12, Cera Ledbetter chipped in 11 and Taylor Sells had 10 points for Central Arkansas (5-1). The Sugar Bears shot 52.9 percent from the floor (40 of 76), forced 37 turnovers and held Crowley’s Ridge to 20.8 percent shooting (10 of 48).
