FAYETTEVILLE -- Arkansas debuted at No. 10 on the first release of the Learfield Directors' Cup standings released this week.

The Razorbacks and No. 9 Ole Miss were the only SEC programs included in the top 35, which included women's field hockey, Men's cross country and women's cross country.

Three Pac-12 teams are atop the standings: Stanford is first, followed by Oregon and Colorado.

Arkansas' men's cross country team, led by top-20 finishes from juniors Alex George and Jack Bruce, finished fifth at the NCAA meet, scoring 75 points in the cup standings. The women placed 19th and received 55 points.

Banquet set

The Arkansas women's basketball team, along with Project Unify, have invited UA students, faculty, staff and members of the community to a free veterans appreciation banquet Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. on the south concourse of Walton Arena. The event is being hosted by the women's basketball team.

The focus of the breakfast, according to a UA news release, is to bring members of the community together to show appreciation for those who serve our country and fought for our freedoms.

Project Unify is a community engagement program created by the women's basketball team and implemented in coordination with campus leaders to raise awareness and initiate dialogue on social issues. The initiative was started after six members of the women's basketball team took a knee during the national anthem at an exhibition game.

Bielema speaks

Arkansas football Coach Bret Bielema will be on the SEC Network set at the Georgia Dome today as part of the coverage prior to the SEC Championship Game.

Bielema will be on the set with host Maria Taylor and analysts Marcus Spears, Tim Tebow and Paul Finebaum between noon and the 3 p.m. kickoff of the game. He is working at the SEC title game for the second year in a row.

Arkansas faced both Alabama and Florida this season, losing 49-30 to Alabama and defeating the Gators 31-10.

On Friday, Bielema served as the keynote speak for the Mississippi Bowl banquet in Gulfport, Miss. The Mississippi Bowl, a postseason game for junior college football teams, is scheduled for Sunday between East Mississippi Community College and Kilgore (Texas) College.

The trip will give Bielema a chance to interact with the junior college circuit from which Arkansas has recruited heavily during his tenure. The Razorbacks signed four Juco players earlier this year and have two committed to the next signing class.

Hog leaders

Arkansas running back Kody Walker and track and field athlete Taliyah Brooks were among 26 current and former SEC athletes to participate in the SEC Corporate Career Tour in Atlanta earlier this week.

The event was held in conjunction with the 2016 SEC Fall Student-Athlete Advisory Committee meeting.

The 26 athletes visited headquarters and met with executives and talent acquisition staff members at several companies in the Atlanta area, including Chick-fil-A, Boys & Girls Club of America, CNN/Turner Broadcasting System and Jackson Spalding.

Track honors

Arkansas track and field men's assistant coach Travis Geopfert and former Razorbacks sprinter Taylor Washington, the former Taylor Ellis-Watson, are getting individual honors.

Geopfert is being inducted into the Iowa Association of Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame 2016 class tonight at an event in Ames, Iowa.

The recently married Washington was an 11-time All-American at Arkansas who won an Olympic gold medal last summer as a member of the United States' 1,600-meter relay team. She is being honored as one of 10 exceptional former athletes during the NCAA convention Jan. 18-21 in Nashville, Tenn.

She was selected by the NCAA Honors Committee, a group of representatives from member schools and conference offices as well as former nationally distinguished collegiate student-athletes.
