Fraternity to mark 70th anniversary

The Pi Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity will observe its 70th anniversary from 8-11:30 p.m. today at the Patrick Hays Senior Citizens Center in North Little Rock.

The fraternity will receive an award to be presented by Thabiti Boone, President Barack Obama's White House champion on fatherhood and mentoring, in recognition of the group's long service in the Little Rock area.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. was founded in 1911 at Howard University in Washington, D.C. It was the first international fraternal organization to be founded on the campus of a historically black college. A graduate chapter was created in Little Rock, with the charter completed on Dec. 17, 1946.
