Hint: The creek below this footbridge flows east to west along the middle of a mesa, scooping down through two sandstone formations. Geologists say the top of the mesa was once a valley.

Hint 2: Nearly vertical ledges and bluffs around the top of the mesa are part of the vast Hartshorne Sandstone formation of light gray or brown sedimentary rocks. As the creek cuts through this rock, it exposes the underlying Atoka formation, which erodes more easily and is made of tan or gray sandstone mixed with gray to black shale.
