Police were at 8349 Counts Massie Road early Thursday checking on a suspicious vehicle and suspicious people when a man tried to flee from police by driving in reverse, according to a news release from the department.

Roger Dale Wood Jr. is accused of hitting a parked vehicle then speeding forward toward a North Little Rock police officer, hitting him and his patrol vehicle, according to the statement. Wood reportedly backed up, drove forward and hit the patrol vehicle a second time before fleeing the scene, the statement said.

The officer, who was injured, attempted to follow Wood but lost him, police said.

Wood was arrested Saturday and charged with aggravated assault, second-degree battery, fleeing in a vehicle, resisting arrest and two counts of first-degree criminal mischief, according to the statement.

Police also said Wood was wanted on a warrant on unrelated charges in Lonoke County.

Wood was not listed on Pulaski County jail's inmate roster Saturday night.
