VA seeks caregivers

The Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks is looking for caregivers to open their homes to veterans in Northwest Arkansas. The VA Medical Foster Home program is a national program with homes in 47 states. The VHSO started its MFH program more than eight years ago and currently has five approved homes in the area. There is a need for homes specifically in the Fayetteville, Springdale, Elkins, West Fork and Farmington areas.

Homes selected to participate in the VA Medical Foster Home program go through a comprehensive screening and inspection process. These homes must be clean and homelike, have an interconnected smoke-fire alarm system that is monitored both remotely and on site, and meet other program guidelines.

A Medical Foster Home is a privately owned/rented residence in the community where a veteran lives with the caregiver, in the caregiver's home and receives care and supervision 24 hours a day, seven days week. This is a long-term arrangement where the veteran may live for the remainder of his or her life.

Applicants must have caregiving experience, complete an application, provide references and meet other requirements. Applicant's homes must be within a 50 mile radius of the Fayetteville VA Medical Center.
