I-49 work requires ongoing overnight lane closings

SPRINGDALE -- Ongoing construction work on Interstate 49 will require continued overnight lane closings in several areas, according to Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department officials.

Work will continue tonight as crews remove temporary barriers and place the final surface on the north and south lanes of I-49. The work will extend between Sunset Avenue, exit 72, and the Elm Springs Road interchange, exit 73. The median and outside lanes of I-49 between Sunset Avenue and Wagon Wheel Road, exit 76, will alternately be closed for construction.

The south exit ramp and north entrance ramp at the Elm Springs Road interchange also will be closed to traffic on altering nights for resurfacing. Motorists who wish to access I-49 at Elm Springs Road will need to use the Sunset Avenue interchange or the Wagon Wheel Road interchange.

Overnight lane closings will end Thursday morning, weather permitting.

• North I-49 lane closings will occur between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

• South I-49 lane closings will occur between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

• South exit ramp closing at Elm Springs Road interchange will occur between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday.

• North exit ramp closure at Elm Springs Road interchange will occur between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Construction work on I-49 in Rogers and Bentonville also will require overnight lane closings.

Beginning tonight, crews will place a barrier wall along the inside lanes of north and south I-49. The inside lanes will be closed beginning south of Southeast Walton Boulevard/West Walnut Street, exit 85, and end at Central Avenue, exit 88, to allow for construction.

The lanes will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Friday, weather permitting. During Labor Day weekend, all lanes will remain open.

Construction associated with the U.S. 412 Northern Bypass in Springdale will require daytime lane closings on Arkansas 112.

On Monday and Tuesday, crews will lay asphalt adjacent to Arkansas 112 to widen the roadway. The lane closings will take place between 1 and 5 p.m., weather permitting. There will be a single lane of traffic between Carrie Smith Road and West Miller Road during paving.
