Eskew, 48 years old, of Sallisaw, Okla., in Sparks Memorial hospital about 6:30 o'clock Friday night. Mrs. Eskew never regained consciousness. • Vandals virtually have wrecked a two-story building at 603 Maryland Avenue that used to be operated as a psychiatric hospital by Dr. Howard A. Dishongh, Pulaski County coroner, and his wife, a psychiatrist whose professional name is Dr. Elizabeth Fletcher. The building has been empty several months, during which time teen-agers apparently made several visits to it during daylight hours, smashing all windows and glass inside the building, knocking out large sections of the sheet rock walls, turning furnishings topsy-turvy and leaving their mark on everything of value.

• Education officials had mixed reactions last week to an assertion by a state Board of Higher Education member that financial discrepancies at two Arkansas universities have been treated differently by the media and the public. The all-black panel was exploring whether racism has seen a resurgence in America when Gray said the Bush administration "has shown us new elements of racism."

LONOKE -- Former Police Chief Jay Campbell, his wife, two bail bondsmen and a former police dispatcher pleaded innocent Friday to revised charges accusing them of conspiring as part of a "continuing criminal organization or enterprise" involving illegal drugs, sex and abuse of an inmate-labor program. Lonoke Mayor Thomas Privett, who faces a misdemeanor theft count and was not charged as part of the purported criminal conspiracy, wasn't in the Lonoke County courtroom Friday. His attorney, Ralph Cloar of Little Rock, entered an innocent plea for him. All six suspects were set for trial Nov. 8, but special Circuit Judge John Cole said he would consider motions on whether to separate prosecution of the cases.
