Springdale's Cambridge Street improvement project to begin mid-September

SPRINGDALE -- A project to improve Cambridge Street and its associated drainage channel is scheduled to begin mid-September.

Two contracts have been awarded to ARCO Excavation & Paving for the widening and drainage improvements, and the water and sewer improvements, according to a city news release.

A curb and gutter on Cambridge Street will be built as well as a double-barrel box culvert, which will eliminate the road dropoff and prevent further erosion. A sidewalk will be added over the box culvert and the road will be widened to add a turn lane. The project should help ease traffic on Cambridge Street and increase road safety during heavy rain.

The $4,595,025 contract was approved by City Council on Aug. 9. The city will receive a $1 million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration for the street and drainage improvement, and an estimated $630,000 will be reimbursed by the Springdale Water Utilities for the water and sewer improvements.

The contract is for 360 days beginning Sept. 6; 180 of those days are for the water and sewer improvement, which are scheduled to be completed first.
