Officers penalized for taking recruits to play 'Pokemon Go'

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — Two officers in a suburban Denver police department that's under federal investigation are no longer allowed to train recruits after taking them to play "Pokemon Go" instead of teaching them.

The Denver Post reported that a pair of Commerce City officers were removed from field training duties last week after their superiors found they were playing the popular game that involves searching for virtual creatures in real-world locations.

City spokesman Julia Emko said it takes misconduct reports seriously and addressed the problem as soon it was discovered.

It comes a week after the U.S. Justice Department said it would review the police force at the chief's request after a series of misconduct cases. One officer staged his own shooting, and another was accused of touching three women during traffic stops.
