STEELERS

Harrison meeting set

Steelers linebacker James Harrison has been informed that his meeting with NFL investigators is 11 a.m. Thursday at the Steelers practice facility, according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

The date meets the requirement the league sent out last week that Harrison and two other players -- Green Bay Packers linebackers Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers -- must submit to interviews by Aug. 25 or face possible indefinite suspension. Harrison, Matthews and Peppers were among five players who were linked to performance enhancing drugs in an Al Jazeera America documentary last December.

Even though the source for the report later recanted his story, the NFL decided to investigate the matter.

Harrison's interview will take place shortly before the Steelers leave for their preseason game Friday night in New Orleans.

VIKINGS

Bridgewater throwing

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has resumed throwing with his sore shoulder. Coach Mike Zimmer has kept quiet about Bridgewater's status.

Bridgewater threw a few dozen short and medium-length passes in practice Tuesday, for the first time in front of reporters in a week. He didn't play in the preseason game at Seattle, and Zimmer has refused to discuss the injury.

Bridgewater was in full pads during weekend practices, but he didn't attempt any passes. Backup Shaun Hill was also held out of those workouts, raising concern about the team's depth and health at quarterback. Hill returned to action Tuesday.

The Vikings host San Diego on Sunday, the first game at U.S. Bank Stadium.

BRONCOS

Ware resumes practice

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Broncos linebacker DeMarcus Ware returned to practice on a limited basis Tuesday with the plan to have him ready for the season opener against Carolina.

Ware missed training camp with a back issue that kept him out of five games in 2015 but said he feels much better than he did at the end of last season. He took part in the walkthrough and drills at the beginning of practice before going into the facility to work with strength and conditioning coach Luke Richesson.

Ware said he isn't concerned about playing in the last two preseason games and that the goal is to have him at full strength for the start of the regular season.

Also Tuesday, quarterback Trevor Siemian didn't throw in practice because of a sore right shoulder. Coach Gary Kubiak said Siemian is day to day but is still the starter for Saturday's preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams.

PATRIOTS

Brady ready to play

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Tom Brady said he's ready to play after a "silly accident" cut his right thumb with a pair of scissors before the Patriots preseason game against the Bears last week.

Brady said he missed the first two practices this week for personal reasons, but he's available and ready to play as New England prepares to play at Carolina.

He said the accident with the scissors occurred when he was trying to get something out of his cleats and the scissors slipped and cut his thumb. Brady said he wanted to play, but Coach Bill Belichick made the decision he'd sit out.

Brady has yet to appear in a game this preseason. He's got two remaining opportunities before the start of four-game regular-season NFL suspension for what the league says was his role in "Deflategate."

TITANS

TE Stevens retiring

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Titans tight end Craig Stevens is retiring at the age of 31.

The Titans announced Tuesday that Stevens informed the team he would file retirement paperwork with the NFL.

Stevens spent his entire eight-year NFL career with the Titans, who drafted him in the third round out of California in 2008.

Stevens had 12 catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns last season while receiving the Ed Block Courage Award from teammates after overcoming a serious leg injury he'd suffered in 2014.

He posted career totals of 60 receptions for 724 yards and six touchdowns. Stevens also had 25 special-teams tackles during his first two NFL seasons.

BILLS

Goodwin may have concussion

PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills receiver Marquise Goodwin is being evaluated for a possible concussion sustained during practice on Tuesday.

Coach Rex Ryan would only say the player was placed in the NFL's concussion protocol, which makes it unlikely Goodwin will play in Buffalo's preseason game at Washington on Friday.

The fourth-year player was hurt when the back of his head slammed against the turf while attempting to make a catch in the end zone during a red-zone drill.

Ryan says he didn't have an update on the status of right tackle Jordan Mills, who hurt his knee and did not return.

Ryan expects Watkins and linebacker Manny Lawson to make their preseason debuts Friday. Watkins has practiced the past two weeks since recovering from surgery in April to repair a stress fracture in his left foot. Lawson missed the first two weeks of training camp with a partly torn chest muscle.
