Pulaski County inmate found hanged in cell

A Pulaski County jail inmate was found hanged in his cell Saturday, the sheriff's office reported Monday.

The agency said in a news release that it believes David Francis Honey, 34, killed himself.

Honey of Fayetteville had been held at the jail since Friday, when North Little Rock police arrested him on charges of public intoxication and first-degree criminal mischief. Jail deputies found Honey hanging from a sheet in his cell at 9:39 p.m. Saturday, according to a sheriff's office report. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sheriff's office spokesman Capt. Carl Minden said the agency believes Honey killed himself because Honey was the lone inmate being held in the cell. Minden said Honey, who had previously been convicted of public intoxication and drug possession, was being held on administrative segregation status. That designation limits an inmate's activities and keeps an inmate away from the general population.

Minden said he did not know why the sheriff's office didn't report Honey's death earlier than Monday.
