Hike set for Slaughter Pen

The Hill ‘N Dale Hiking Club will begin its fall season Sept. 8 with a hike on the Slaughter Pen Trail in Bentonville.

Meet at 9 a.m. at the city Bark Park on North Walton Boulevard. The hike is two to three miles of moderate difficulty. George Riggin will lead the trip.

All hikers are welcome. Membership is not required. The club has several hikes scheduled through the fall. For information contact Dora Brach, 417-501-4535 or [email protected].

Cleanup seeks volunteers The annual Beaver Lake Cleanup is set for Sept. 24 on all areas of the lake.

Cleanup begins at 8 a.m. Lunch and and a drawing for prizes is at noon at the Prairie Creek Grand Shelter.

Volunteers should check in and receive trash bags after 8 a.m., at Prairie Creek, Dam Site, Hickory Creek or Lost Bridge North parks.

Volunteers will be directed to areas of the lake where the most work is needed. Volunteers with boats will transport workers to areas around the lake.

Symposium focuses

on lake

The Beaver Lake Watershed Symposium will be from 9:30 a.m., to 2:30 p.m., Sept. 29 at the Northwest Arkansas Realty Board building, 314 N. Goad Springs Road, in Lowell.

Presentations about longterm trends in the lake’s water quality will be presented, plus information about conservation efforts in the lake watershed.

Other topics include the Army Corps of Engineers shoreline management plan and bank stabilization efforts along the West Fork of the White River.
