Cave Springs Police Chief Joe Powell was suspended Sunday pending the outcome of an internal investigation into his conduct, according to Cave Springs Mayor Travis Lee.
Lee did not elaborate, but said "some information came to me Friday" regarding Powell's conduct. Lee said he was investigating the matter and Powell is suspended with pay until the investigation is complete.
Lee hired Powell as police chief in December 2015 following the resignation of former chief Michael Caudill.
Powell, 44, has worked for law enforcement agencies in Arkansas, Missouri and Texas. From 2000 to 2006, Powell worked at the Benton County Sheriff's Office.
