Cyclist, 79, dies in Benton County wreck

A cyclist was killed in a Benton County crash Friday morning when he hit a truck at an intersection, police said.

According to an Arkansas State Police crash report, Jack Allen, 79, was riding a red bicycle west on McNelly Road toward its intersection with Looney Road at 8:39 a.m. At the intersection, McNelly veers to the south while Looney meets McNelly from the north, forming what looks like a fork in the road for westbound drivers on McNelly.

Allen of Bella Vista, state police said, didn’t continue on McNelly as it veered south, instead crossing over onto Looney. That when he hit a Ford truck that was heading east on McNelly.

Police said it was wet and raining during the wreck. Allen was the 330th death on Arkansas roads in 2016.
