Two high school students were arrested after authorities in Garland County found a handgun in a vehicle on campus, the Garland County sheriff's office said.
The agency said in a news release that deputies were called Monday after a Jessieville School District resource officer "received information of two students who had come to school with a gun."
John Schroeder, a spokesman for the sheriff's office, said authorities initially learned of the gun through a Snapchat post. He said it was unclear who posted about the weapon on the popular social network, adding the investigation is ongoing.
A search of a vehicle parked in the student lot revealed a stolen firearm in the center console, the release said.
Wilton Hobbs, 18, and a juvenile male whose name was not released were each arrested on charges of possession of a handgun on school property and theft by receiving, both Class D felonies.
Schroeder said there was not any indication the teens had any plans to use the weapon.
"There was not any malicious intent, to my knowledge," he said.
