Lake Jack Nolen set for fall drawdown

GREENWOOD — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will lower the water level of Lake Jack Nolen beginning Sept. 6. The drawdown will lower the lake’s water level 4 to 6 feet and should last until midwinter.

Periodic drawdowns can improve the health of the fishery. They congregate baitfish, which allows sport fish to feed upon them, increasing their growth rate. Crappie and bass both benefit from this concentration of food.

Drawdowns also enable landowners to complete approved land-use projects around the lakeshore. Landowners are reminded they must have an approved permit before beginning construction of any new structures on a lot adjacent to Lake Jack Nolen.

No vehicles are allowed on the lake bottom during the drawdown.

Lake Jack Nolen was last drawn down in the fall of 2012.
