Disease topic of program

Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area will host a program on chronic wasting disease at 2 p.m., Sunday at the visitor center.

Officials with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will give a presentation and answer questions about the disease, which has been found in Arkansas’ deer and elk.

Sanctuary

to host festival

The fourth annual Bats and Bluegrass Festival returns to the Illinois River Watershed Sanctuary from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the sanctuary, 221 S. Main Street in Cave Springs.

The festival includes outdoor activities and recreation, live bluegrass entertainment and a dusk-time viewing of endangered gray bats.

Run to fight hunger

The CARE Community Center’s annual fundraising event, Run for a Child’s Hunger will be Sept. 5 at Pinnacle Hills Promenade in Rogers.

The run features a 10K, 5K and 1-mile “Care-acter” fun run/walk. The 10K run will begin at 7:30 a.m., followed by the start of the 5K and 1 mile at 8:15 a.m. Participants in the 1-mile fun walk may dress up as their favorite characters, and corporate teams are also encouraged to participate in the run/walk event.

Registration is available from noon to 5 p.m. on Sept. 4 at the Pinnacle Hills Promenade food court, followed by a pasta dinner from 5:30 to 8 p.m. For online registration, go to www.CarerCC.org.

Hikers set

for Slaughter Pen

The Hill ’N Dale Hiking Club will begin its fall season Sept. 8 with a hike on the Slaughter Pen Trail in Bentonville.

Meet at 9 a.m. at the city Bark Park on North Walton Boulevard. The hike is two to three miles of moderate difficulty. George Riggin will lead the trip.

All hikers are welcome. Membership is not re - quired. The club has several hikes scheduled through the fall.

Beaver Lake

cleanup set

The annual Beaver Lake Cleanup is set for Sept. 24 on all areas of the lake.

Cleanup begins at 8 a.m. Lunch and a drawing for prizes is at noon at the Prairie Creek Grand Shelter. Volunteers should check in and receive trash bags after 8 a.m., at Prairie Creek, Dam Site, Hickory Creek or Lost Bridge North parks. Volunteers will be directed to areas of the lake where the most work is needed.
