Two Arkansas jailers who police say had advance knowledge of an assault on an inmate have been arrested on felony battery charges, the Pope County sheriff's office said Wednesday.

Pope County corrections officers William Tarvin and Zachary Sink were charged in the case along with four inmates involved in the assault, according to a news release. All six suspects face a charge of second-degree battery.

The victim, an inmate being held at the Russellville facility whose name wasn't released, was treated at a local hospital for injuries sustained in the Friday evening attack.

“As soon as I discovered that their actions and decisions were illegal and inappropriate, this office took immediate action and launched an investigation,” Sheriff Shane Jones said in the release.

The inmates charged in the attack were identified as Cameron Jolley, Douglas DuVall, Clarence Robinson and James Avinger. The two officers, Tarvin and Sink, "had prior knowledge that the incident was going to take place," the release said.
