— Arkansas defensive end Tevin Beanum is on track to re-join the team when classes start Aug. 22, if not sooner.

The 6-foot-4, 251-pound junior, a projected starter following spring practice, was not on the 105-man roster to start fall camp while dealing with what coach Bret Bielema only referred to as “a situation.” Beanum can’t rejoin the team until classes begin unless a player on the 105 roster is injured and removed from it, but, either way, his absence appears to be nearly over.

“We expect Tevin to join us for sure when school starts if not maybe before,” Bielema said. “I talked to him Sunday and he was really, really upbeat about everything.”

True freshman McTelvin Agim, junior Karl Roesler and sophomore linebacker-turned-end Randy Ramsey have manned the end spot opposite Deatrich Wise in Beanum’s absence. Beanum started eight games as a sophomore and recorded 30 tackles, seven tackles for loss and two sacks. If he returns Aug. 22, he will have two weeks of practice to prepare for the Sept. 3 opener against Louisiana Tech.

“Tevin's played a lot of football here, don't see it as a factor,” defensive coordinator Robb Smith said of the time missed. “We'll get him back and get him up to speed on what's going on. But he's always been a smart football player when he's been here. We'll get him ready and he'll be ready to go for us. But he's a guy we're certainly counting on.”
