Regional mountain bike director arrested

SPRINGDALE -- A regional director for the International Mountain Biking Association and his wife were arrested Thursday after police found four pounds of marijuana and firearms in their Springdale home, according to a preliminary arrest report.

Stephen Schneider, 60, and Margret Schneider, 54, of 403 Zachary St. were arrested in connection with three counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms and possession of drug paraphernalia, all felonies.

Task force

The 4th Judicial Task Force consists of investigators from police agencies in Fayetteville, Springdale, Prairie Grove, Lincoln, Farmington, West Fork, Greenland, Johnson, Tontitown, Elkins and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Chaired by Fayetteville Police Chief Greg Tabor, the task force provides initial and follow-up investigation work concerning drug related crimes.

The 4th Judicial District Drug Task Force served a search warrant at the Schneiders' home Wednesday, where officers found about 1,900 grams of marijuana packaged in bags and containers, 10 hydrocone pills, 2 grams of hashish and a digital scale, according to the arrest report.

Two firearms -- a Phoenix Arms 25-caliber semi-automatic pistol and Stoeger Arms double-barrel 12-gauge shotgun -- also were recovered alongside $5,023 in cash, the report said.

Schneider is a regional director for the association's South Central Region, which covers Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and most of Texas. Regional directors are paid by the association to help coordinate the development of local chapters, according to the association's website.

Schneider was hired as a regional director in 2013, according to an association news release.

Messages left for Schneider and program director Natasha Brand weren't returned.
