JBU to build court for soccerlike game

A public futsal court will be built at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, the first such facility in the Northwest Arkansas area for enthusiasts of a soccerlike game played on a hard surface.

The Walmart Foundation is contributing a $76,677 grant to help pay for the 120-by-150-foot outdoor facility featuring three courts. It will be fenced and include lighting.

The total project cost is estimated at $200,000, with the remaining funds to be raised by John Brown or otherwise provided by the private Christian college.

Siloam Springs city crews will contribute construction labor and equipment. Tarah Thomas, a communications specialist with John Brown, wrote in an email that the project is expected to be completed in February.
