A heat advisory will remain in effect for most of Arkansas through Thursday night as temperatures hit the upper 90s and triple-digits and high humidity makes condition feel even hotter, the National Weather Service said.

The heat index, which measures how hot the air feels when humidity is considered, will range from 105 to 110 Wednesday and Thursday for much of the state. The advisory, which remains in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday, covers all but parts of Northwest and north-central Arkansas.

In Little Rock, a high of 99 is forecast Wednesday. Some points to the southwest, including Arkadelphia and Texarkana, were expected to reach triple digits.

The weather service said the conditions will be hot enough to possibly cause heat-related illnesses. People are advised to keep hydrated, remain in air conditioning as possible and check on relatives and neighbors.

"Take precautions if working outside," the agency said in a statement.

The hot conditions are expected to stick around through the weekend and into next week, the weather service said, with heat indexes likely to hit triple digits each afternoon.

Thunderstorms are possible in the afternoons or early evenings, the weather service said, but they are expected to be isolated.

"The threat of any organized or widespread strong or severe thunderstorms is low," the statement added.
