Hit by vehicle, 2-year-old Arkansas boy dies

SPRINGDALE -- A 2-year-old boy died after being hit by a vehicle Sunday night, according to police.

The vehicle was driven by Joel Guerrero, 32, of Springdale, according to the news release from Lt. Derek Wright, Springdale police spokesman. The accident happened about 8:30 p.m. at 1106 Thelma St.

The release didn't say whether the child crossed the street or was backed over. Wright didn't respond to a request for comment Monday afternoon.

The boy isn't named in the news release. He was pronounced dead at Northwest Medical Center-Springdale.

According to the release, police don't believe there was any foul play and don't expect to make any arrests or issue any citations in the boy's death, but an investigation is ongoing.

Sunday's fatality marks the third time this year that a child was hit and killed by a vehicle in Springdale.

A 2-year-old boy died March 2 at 862 B Doubletree St. after his father, Jose Macias, 32, accidentally hit the boy with his car.

On May 27, a 3-year-old girl died after an SUV backed over her while pulling from a driveway on 108 Willella Place. The driver was Bwilman Taidrik, 29, police said.
