Gravette couple accused of injuring 2-month-old daughter

BENTONVILLE — A Gravette couple is accused of injuring their 2-month-old daughter, who was later transported to Arkansas Children’s Hospital for treatment, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Monday.

Deven Randolph, 31, and Holly Randolph, 30, were arrested Sunday in connection with first-degree battery, a felony punishable with a prison sentence ranging from 10 to 40 years or life imprisonment.

Deven Randolph is free on a $75,000 bond. Holly Randolph is a free on a $25,000 bond.

Prosecutors have not filed formal charges against the couple.

James Chamberlin, a detective with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, was assigned the case after it was referred to the office by the Gravette Police Department.

The child was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Rogers on July 22, then later taken by helicopter to Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, according to court documents. The baby girl had bleeding from the brain, fractures to the left femur and tibia, a fracture to the left forearm, fluid on the spine and injuries to a kidney, according to the affidavit.

A Children’s Hospital doctor told Chamberlin the injuries are consistent with child abuse, mainly shaken baby syndrome, the affidavit states. The doctor reported the baby would be incapable of causing the injuries to herself, according to court documents.

The child’s babysitter told Chamberlin she watched the child July 21. Holly Randolph picked her up that evening, and the baby was in a good mood and smiling, the affidavit states.

Holly Randolph dropped her daughter off with the babysitter the next day, and the girl had a bruise on the right side of her forehead, according to court document. Holly Randolph said she did not know where the bruise came from, the affidavit states.

The babysitter found a bruise on the girl’s right abdomen when changing her diaper. The babysitter contacted Holly Randolph about the situation, the affidavit states.

Holly Randolph later texted the babysitter and asked her to touch her sleeping daughter’s leg, and the baby woke up crying, according to court documents. Holly Randolph left work and took her daughter to Mercy Medical Center, the affidavit states.

The couple will appear for arraignment in Benton County Circuit Judge Robin Green’s court at 8 a.m. Sept. 6.
