4A-1 District Tournament in Gentry

GRAVETTE — Prairie Grove knocked off top-seeded Berryville 8-5 to advance to the championship game. Friday’s game was moved to Gravette after Gentry’s field was saturated by overnight rain. The championship game will begin one hour after the conclusion of the other semifinal matchup between No. 3 Lincoln and No. 2 Pea Ridge, which was suspended Friday with the Lady Wolves leading 3-1. Fifth-seeded Prairie Grove scored three runs in the third and another run in each of the fourth and fifth innings before Berryville exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to even the score at 5-all. Following Callie Harp’s two-run double, Allie Harp bounced a two-run homer off the top of the centerfield wall and Hannah Pruente followed with a solo home run to left to account for Berryville’s big inning. The Lady Tigers regained the lead with three runs in the top of the sixth with Kylie Scott lining a tworun single to center field and Anna Kidd pushing another run across on an infield single to create the final margin. Brooke Ketzler, who came on in relief of starter Maddie Stearman in the fifth, retired the final eight Bobcats in order to record the victory.

Lincoln 3, Pea Ridge 1, susp.

The Lady Wolves plated three runs in the third inning on an RBI double by Tristian Cunningham and RBI singles by Ashtyn Rothrock and Lexington Dobbs. Rothrock, who tossed a four-hitter in a 6-0 shutout against Gravette on Thursday, didn’t allow a hit until Hollyn Davis’ leadoff double in the fourth inning. Davis scored on a double by Avery Dayberry before Rothrock retired the next three in order to escape the threat. The game is scheduled to resume at the start of the fifth inning at 4 p.m. Monday at Gentry.

Semifinals for both tournaments are scheduled for 4 and 6:30 p.m., and the finals are set for 6 p.m. Monday. In baseball, Elkins and Mansfield will play at 4, followed by West Fork vs. Greenland at 6. All four teams have already punched their tickets to the 3A Region I Tournament in Atkins next week.
