NLR school bus rear-ended by car

Nine North Little Rock High School students and a school bus driver were hospitalized as a precaution after a car struck the bus Friday morning, the school district reported.

District spokesman Rhonda Colquitt said in a news release that the bus was rear-ended at 16th and Moss streets, just west of Pike Avenue. Those on board had no visible signs of injuries, but they were taken to a hospital for further examination, she said.

North Little Rock police spokesman Sgt. Brian Dedrick said the crash occurred about 8 a.m. By his account, the bus stopped shortly before 8 a.m. because students on board were fighting. A motorist then tried to pass the bus, but "hit the back and then kind of sideswiped it."

The motorist was cited for unsafe driving, Dedrick said.

Police reported that some students complained of head, neck and back pain.
