What's this? Sense
in a letter to editor?
Seldom do I see in reading letters to the editor section a writer of sense and sensibility. They usually fling in vitriol, as on April 19, about "religious nuts," "gun-carrying Christian fundamentalists" or "knuckle-dragging right wingers." But wow, today, Nancy Brown of Bella Vista writes about Earth Day: "At the same time implicit to the development of conscience are the roles of family, community, institutions of education and religion ... Imperative to the development of that conscience is a realistic view ... consequences of our choices ... needs not be based on any self-righteous moralism, nationalism, political polarization or magical optimism."
What are these strange words of maturity that persuade? Even if we don't agree with them or do agree, they are respectfully submitted. I call the other writers "Addies" for adolescent approach.
Thank you, Nancy, for the informed, pleasurable approach.
But wait, there's more: A second letter by Blane Wilhite and Dan Roeder from Piggott. They are thanking another writer, Jane Gatewood, about her heartwarming recounting of her near-death health experience in a community hospital. Also, how they even tax themselves in Piggott to sustain these hospitals. Again, another sense-motivated approach for a need. Also a thank you for pleasure received.
I add my thanks for both letters today.

Barber deserves
some recognition
After reading the front-page article (April 25), I believe David Furr certainly deserves recognition. A barber who volunteers his own time to give haircuts for youths at the county juvenile center is more than a barber.
Hats off to David Furr.
