UA women seeded No. 2 at Stanford

The eighth-ranked Arkansas women's golf team has received the No. 2 seed in the 19-team NCAA Stanford Regional, which will be held May 5-7 at Stanford Golf Course.

Coach Shauna Estes-Taylor's team is competing in its 14th consecutive NCAA regional.

The Razorbacks' lineup at the regional is expected to be freshman Maria Fassi in the No. 1 position, followed by sophomore Alana Uriell, freshman Cara Gorel, senior Reginia Plasencia and junior Summar Roachell.

Second-ranked Southern California is the region's top seed, followed by No. 12 Stanford, No. 15 Virginia, No. 18 UNLV, No. 21 San Diego State, No. 26 Texas Tech, Ohio State, Colorado, Wake Forest, Michigan State, North Carolina, Pepperdine, San Jose State, UC-Riverside, Idaho, Richmond and Seton Hall.

The top six teams, along with the top three individuals from teams teams that don't qualify, will advance to the NCAA championships.

The other three regionals will be hosted by SEC schools: Shoal Creek (Alabama), Baton Rouge (LSU) and Bryan (Texas A&M).

Arkansas is one of 10 SEC schools in the regionals.

ASU men second at Sun Belt Tournament

The Arkansas State men's golf team is in second place heading into the final round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at Raven Golf Club in Sandestin, Fla.

The Red Wolves shot a 278 Monday and have a 36-hole total of 567, trailing Georgia State by six strokes.

UALR is in sixth place with 580 (293-287).

UALR's Noah Tullos is tied for fourth with a 139 (66-73). Arkansas State's Tanner Napier is tied for seventh with a 140.

Henderson State men, Arkansas Tech women lead GAC

The Henderson State men and Arkansas Tech women lead the Great American Conference Tournament at Hot Springs Country Club, with one round to play in the 54-hole event.

The Reddies (571) shot a second-round 281 and have a 12-shot lead over Arkansas Tech.

Individually, George Adams of Southern Arkansas leads with a 7-under 137.

In the women's tournament, Arkansas Tech (624) shot a 307 to lead Henderson by three strokes.

Individually, Marion Broedys of Southern Nazarene leads with a 36-hole total of 150, a two-stroke lead over Southwestern Oklahoma State's Gloria Choi.

Henderson, Arkansas Tech women make regional

Henderson State and Arkansas Tech have drawn into the Division II women's golf regional to be played at the Awarii Dunes Golf Club in Axtell, Neb., May 2-4.

Tech is the fourth seed and Henderson is seeded sixth in the 12-team region, along with Northeastern (Okla.) State, Augustana (S.D.), Central Oklahoma, Lindenwood (Mo.), Southwestern Oklahoma State, Missouri Western, Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.), Minnesota State-Mankato, Upper Iowa and Central Missouri.

The top three teams and top three individuals from nonqualifying teams will advance to the national championship May 18-21 at Common Ground Golf Course in Aurora, Colo.

ASU's Schrimpf named Sun Belt player of the week

Arkansas State infielder/catcher Joe Schrimpf was named Sun Belt Conference player of the week Monday.

Schrimpf helped the Red Wolves to a 4-0 week by hitting 8 for 17, scoring 6 runs, including the game-winning run in a 5-4 victory over Louisiana-Monroe Sunday.
