PREP BASEBALL

Bryant 12-8, Siloam Springs 1-3

Bryant coach Kirk Bock picked up career win No. 600 Monday as the Hornets swept Siloam Springs in a 7A/6A-Central Conference doubleheader. Arkanas signee Evan Lee threw a one-hitter and struck out 10 in the 12-1 win in game one. The Hornets (24-2, 11-1) completed the sweep behind Alex Shurtleff in game two. Siloam Springs fell to 10-14 overall and 2-9 in conference play. Siloam Springs hosts Greenwood on Friday in an important 6A conference game.

Fort Smith Southside 4, Fayetteville 0

Lady Rebels pitcher Andee Tiffee struck out 12 Fayetteville batters and allowed just six hits in a complete game performance as FS Southside (16-6, 6-4) picked up the 7A-West Conference win Monday in a makeup game from a previously postponed matchup. Maggie Mabry worked six effective innings for the Lady Bulldogs 7-11, 5-5), allowing just three earned runs. Katy Beth Ezell led Fayetteville at the plate, going 2 for 3.

Springdale High 6, Huntsville 5

Bethany Counts drove in three runs and Springdale scored three the bottom of the sixth to rally for a nonconference victory over Huntsville. Counts finished 2 for 3 for Springdale, while Madi Schlesinger was for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Addyson Epp added two hits while Braden Meredith and Whitnee Patterson each drove in a run. Meredith earned the win on the mound, striking out three while allowing five hits and three walks.

Decatur boys take district title

Decatur’s boys captured their fourth consecutive 2A-4 West District title Monday with a win at Monday’s meet at Eureka Springs. The Bulldogs compiled 222 points and had more points than the next two teams combined. Mountainburg took second with 114, followed by Eureka Springs with 104. Decatur earned first-place finishes by Brandon Coker in the shot put (40 feet, 3 inches), the team of Tyler Riddle, Marck Guadarrama, Taylor Haisman and Ryan Shaffer in the 4x800-meter relay (9 minutes), Riddle in the 1,600 (4:52.30), the team of Johnny Brandon, Jaffett Puga, Tajae and Jimmy Mendoza in the 4x100 relay (47.40 seconds) and the team of Shaffer, Guadarrama, Mendoza and Haisman in the 4x400 relay (3:48.20). The Bulldogs also had a one-two finish by Bracy Owens (11-0) and Leng Lee (10-6) in the pole vault and the top three finishers in the 110 hurdles and the 800. Johnson County Westside claimed the girls title with 247 points, followed by Eureka Springs with 126. Decatur took third with 97 points.
