Bentonville wins Benton tourney

Megan Crownover drove in Keelah Griffith with the go-ahead run and sparked a four-run outburst in the fifth inning as Bentonville won the Drew Melton Memorial Tournament title with a 5-1 victory Saturday night over Benton Harmony Grove in Benton. Haley Cornell added a sacrifice fly, then Payton Wildeman belted an RBI triple and scored on Tymber Riley’s single as the Lady Tigers (23-1) extended their win streak to 15 games. Maddy Prough (13-0) had her streak of consecutive scoreless innings pitched end at 34 when she gave up a one-out home run in the third. The junior right-hander finished with a four-hitters and struck out seven. In earlier games, freshman righthander Cailey Cochran improved her record to 10-1 with a pair of one-hitters as Bentonville claimed a 5-0 win over De Queen and a 3-0 decision over El Dorado. Cochran struck out six De Queen batters in the morning game, then added nine more against El Dorado. Crownover and Griffith led the Lady Tigers with two hits and an RBI apiece against De Queen. Crownover also had two hits and drove in a run against El Dorado, while Jenna Wildeman and Jordan Gartman each drove in a run.

Nixa, Mo., 10, Springdale Har-Ber 8 Ozark, Mo., 9, Springdale Har-Ber 2

Har-Ber fell behind early while losing two non-conference games over the weekend at the Tyson Complex in Springdale. Har-Ber fell behind 8-1 after two innings and lost 9-2 to Ozark, Mo.on Saturday. Har-Ber contributed to its demise by making five of the six errors in the game. On Sunday, Har-Ber fell behind 9-2 and lost 10-8 to Nixa, Mo. Har-Ber scored five runs in the fifth inning but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit. Brady Patrick went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs for the Wildcats. Har-Ber (16-9, 8-2) returns to 7A-West Conference action with two important games against Fayetteville. Har-Ber will play at Fayetteville Monday before the teams meet again at Arvest Ballpark on Tuesday. Both games start at 4:30 p.m.
