Arkansas woman's death on railroad track ruled suicide

TEXARKANA — The death of an Ashdown woman who was run over by a Kansas City Southern Railway train has been ruled a suicide.

The state medical examiner determined that Mary Sue Blair, 53, took her own life, 9th Judicial District deputy prosecutor Al Smith said. The death occurred April 2 and was reported to the Little River County sheriff ’s office at 8:44 p.m.

Last week, Smith, Arkansas State Police Trooper Robert Wilson and railroad officials reviewed a video of the death provided by Kansas City Southern.

Smith said he agreed with the medical examiner’s ruling after watching the video, in which Blair lies down across the railroad tracks in front of a southbound train.

The crew spotted her, but it was too late to stop the train, Smith said.

Blair’s body was found about 150 yards south of the Locke Street crossing. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Little River County Coroner Roddy Smith.
