FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas' first-team defense highlighted the Razorbacks' Red-White game Saturday at Razorback Stadium.
The first-team defense allowed only 49 yards in the scrimmage, which served as the Razorbacks' final practice of the spring. The White team, comprised of projected starters, beat the Red team 39-21, although scoring was not traditional.
The Red reserve team scored all but three of its points during field goal competitions between quarters. Some players switched teams late in the scrimmage.
The first-team defense allowed only three first downs during the scrimmage. The unit was particularly good against the run, allowing 10 yards on 18 carries.
The White team recorded five called sacks, led by two apiece from Deatrich Wise and Jeremiah Ledbetter. Quarterbacks wore green no-contact jerseys.
Arkansas' first-team offense moved the ball, but failed to score in its first four possessions of the scrimmage. Cole Hedlund missed a 42-yard field goal attempt on the unit's first possession and Keon Hatcher fumbled into the end zone for a touchback on the fourth possession.
The White team scored its first touchdown on Denzell Evans' 6-yard run with 4:38 left before halftime. The score capped a 10-play, 63-yard drive.
Austin Allen completed 4 of 5 passes for 62 yards during the drive, including an 18-yard strike along the sideline to Dominique Reed that moved the team into the red zone.
Allen finished the scrimmage completing 13 of 19 passes for 141 yards. He did not play in the fourth quarter.
Evans scored his second touchdown on a 2-yard run with less than a minute remaining in the third quarter. The White team scored a third touchdown on a 28-yard pass from Ricky Town to Jamario Bell on the final play of the scrimmage.
The only points for the Red team during regulation play came on Adam McFain's 51-yard field goal in the third quarter.
The White offense finished the scrimmage with 323 yards on 58 plays. Evans led the unit with 43 yards on 14 carries and Hatcher was the leading receiver with three catches for 48 yards.
