PREP BASEBALL

Bentonville 4, Sand Springs, Okla. 2

Carter Brown pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts, and Bentonville set the pace with solo tallies in the first two innings to knock off Sand Springs in a nonconference game played Friday at Fayetteville.

Brown, the Arkansas-Little Rock signee, struck out nine and walked one in his outing, with both runs allowed being unearned because of four Tiger errors.

Nathan Lyons put Bentonville (14-7) ahead to stay when he was hit by a pitch and scored on Tyler Johnson’s first-inning double. Matt Bratspies added an RBI single in the second, while Kasey Ford drove in a run with a single in the fifth.

Bratspies and Johnson each had two hits for the Tigers, who resume 7A-West Conference play Monday at Rogers High.

Rogers High 11, Carthage, Mo. 3

The Mounties rolled to a road win Friday in nonconference action behind a solid pitching effort from senior Evan Dobler.

Dobler went four innings and allowed just four hits and one earned run to get the win. Mason Mitchell pitched three innings and allowed just two hits.

The Mounties (18-5) pounded 10 hits, led by Kyle Eason, who was 2 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs. Grayson Lee also tripled and had two RBIs and Harrison Heffley was 1 for 4 with a pair of RBIs.

Rogers will return to action at home Monday against Bentonville in a 7A-West Conference clash at Veterans Park.

Fayetteville 8, Sand Springs, Okla. 1

Jacob Davenport pitched four scoreless innings and the Purple’Dogs broke the game open early, scoring seven runs through the first two innings in a nonconference win at Bulldog Field on Friday. Hayes Cox and DeShawn McCoard had two hits and on run each and Thomas Broyles was 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for Fayetteville (16-9).

The Purple’Dogs are back at home Monday playing host to Springdale Har-Ber in a key 7A-West matchup.

PREP SOFTBALL

Bentonville 6, Sheridan 0

Maddy Prough fired a two-hitter, and Bentonville scored at least one run in four of five innings to defeat Sheridan in first-round action of the Benton Invitational.

Prough (12-0) struck out eight and walked one and extended her scoreless string to 31.2 innings pitched. The junior right-hander allowed two singles in the third but left both runners stranded.

Bentonville (20-1) didn’t need a hit to take a lead it didn’t relinquish as Megan Crownover reached on an error and later scored on Haley Cornell’s squeeze bunt in the first inning.

Bentonville returns to tournament action at 10:30 a.m. today against De Queen.

Farmington 12, Fayetteville 0 (5)

The Lady Cardinals belted out 13 hits in five innings, including three off the bat of Carley Antwine in a five-inning home win over Fayetteville on Friday.

Bethany McKnight, Brandy Wallace and Tkeyah McDaniel added two hits each for Farmington, with Alyssa Reed contributing three RBIs.

Fayetteville 4, Springdale High 0

The Lady Purple’Dogs broke open a match that was tied at intermission with four goals after halftime for the 7A-West Conference win Friday at Harmon Stadium.

Myra Tubb got the scoring started for Fayetteville (11-3-1, 9-1), followed by back-to-back goals in less than a minute off the scoreboard by Berklie Young.
