PREP BASEBALL

Rogers Heritage 1, McDonald County, Mo. 0

The War Eagles managed just one hit, but was able to snap a five-game losing streak on Thursday night at Veterans Park.

Dane Olsen’s fielder’s choice scored Logan Easley scored the lone run of the game. Jacob Morris and Macauley Sams combined on the shutout for the War Eagles (8-14). McDonald County loaded the bases in the seventh, but Sams, who pitched the final four innings, worked out of trouble to finish off the win.

Easley drew a walk, moved to third on Trey Kitterman’s single. McDonald County tried to turn an inning-ending double play on Olsen’s grounder, but he was safe at first as the run scored.

Vilonia 1, Farmington 0 (12)

Vilonia’s Austin Newell’s sacrifice fly in the 12th inning snapped the Cardinals 11-game winning streak and accounted for the lone run in a game dominated by pitching.

Farmington (16-4, 5-4 5A-West) left 18 runners on base, including the bases-loaded twice, while Vilonia stranded 11 runners. Cardinals starter Tyler Gregg allowed two hits in seven shutout innings while striking out 10 and walking four. Derek Perona gave Farmington two shutout innings while Drake Vinyard allowed one run on three hits in three innings.

For the Eagles (14-5, 5-3), starter Cody Mitchell allowed two hits in four innings and Bradley Taylor scattered six hits in six scoreless innings pitched.

Tripp Cheney was 3 for 4 and Nick Huff was 2 for 5 for Farmington.

Nick Howard was the lone Vilonia player with two hits.

The second game of the doubleheader was still ongoing on press time.

Prairie Grove 19, Lincoln 5

The Tigers scored in every inning in a run-rule win over Lincoln in 4A-1 Conference action Thursday.

Prairie Grove bashed 14 hits, led by Sam Dodd, who was 3 for 5 with a double and four RBIs, and Logan Gragg, who was 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Reed Orr was 2 for 4 with a triple and Nick Quinton was also 2 for 4.

Nick Ellis and Dylan Soehner combined to limit Lincoln to seven hits and struck out seven.

Garrett Blankenship was 2 for 2 to lead the Wolves, and Caleb Loyd was 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

Pea Ridge 11, Elkins 1

Three Blackhawks pitchers combined on a no-hitter as the Blackhawks run-ruled Elkins.

Cole Wright went three innings and struck out seven of the nine batters he faced. Bryce Beckman went 1/3 of an inning and walked three, and Weston Church finished the five-inning game with 11/3 no-hit innings with two strikeouts.

Eric Hankins was 2 for 2 with a triple, double and two RBIs for Pea Ridge (20-3). Jakota Sainsbury was 2 for 2 with a triple. Weston Church also doubled for the Blackhawks.

Farmington 0-3,Vilonia 8-2

Brandy Wallace’s RBI double to left in the eighth inning helped the Lady Cardinals salvage the second game of a doubleheader against Vilonia.

A pair of late-game double plays by Farmington (15-7, 7-3 5A-West) ended scoring threats for the Lady Eagles. In the seventh, left fielder Madison Parrish made a catch and perfect throw to home plate for the first double play. In the eighth, pitcher Paige Devecsery caught a line drive and promptly threw to second base for an inning-ending double play.

“The double plays were huge,” said Farmington coach Randy Osnes. “We finally played with the same mentality that we’ve been practicing with and we actually took it to the ball field. Very proud of the effort against a very good Vilonia team.”

Farmington’s Callie Harper evened the score at 2-all with a two-run single in the sixth inning. Harper, who plays first base, also made a diving catch on a sacrifice bunt attempt for the first out in the seventh inning.

Vilonia (11-4, 5-1), the defending Class 5A champions, scored a run in the third inning on an error and in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Morgan Gray. In the opener, Vilonia senior Sydney Wader struck out four while pitching a four-hit shutout. Skylar Lee went 2 for 4 with a two-run double during a three-run third inning and Gray was 3 for 4 with a two-run double during a three-run sixth inning to pace the Lady Eagles offensively.

Lincoln 7, Prairie Grove 3

A six-run, second inning helped the Lady Wolves spoil Prairie Grove’s shot at the 4A-1 title and No. 1 seed at next week’s district tournament. Instead, the Lady Tigers (16-13, 3-3 4A-1) drop to the fifth seed while Lincoln (13-6, 4-2) secured the third seed. Lincoln senior pitcher Ashtyn Rothrock struck out 13 while allowing five hits to pick up the victory. Lexington Dobbs got the Lady Wolves on the board with a solo homer in the first inning. “She’s pitching really well,” said Lincoln coach Beau Collins. “Most of her pitches are working well for her and she’s hitting her spots. I can’t be any happier with the way she’s pitching the past few weeks.” In the second, Tristan Cunningham, Madison Reed and Ayden Massey each drove in two runs to account for the Lady Wolves’ scoring. Kylie Scott and Mackenzie Terry each drove in a run for Prairie Grove. The third run came whe Anna Kidd caught the Lady Wolves defense sleeping and was able to steal home after Terry’s RBI single in the sixth.

Bentonville 12, Springdale Har-Ber 1

Payton Wildeman, Megan Crownover and Haley Cornell each hit two-run home runs to boost Bentonville to a 7A-West win over Har-Ber. The win gives the Lady Tigers (19-1 10-0) their best conference and overall starts in school history, breaking the 18-1 mark and 9-0 conference record they had during the 2006 season. Bentonville already had a 3-0 lead when Wildeman hit her home run in the third inning, and she added an RBI groundout in the fourth to make it a 7-1 game. Crownover and Cornell hit their blasts as part of a five-run fifth and caused the 1o-run rule to be invoked. Freshman Cailey Cochran (8-1) picked up the win as she pitched the final three innings in relief of Maddy Prough, who threw two perfect innings and now has retired 18 straight batters. Cochran allowed just one hit, and Har-Ber’s lone run came as part of a double steal.

Rogers Heritage 3, Fort Smith Northside 2

Sarah Pollock worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh inning to help the Lady War Eagles hold on for the 7A-West road win on Thursday. Fort Smith Northside scored a run in the seventh to pull within 3-2 and had the bases loaded, but Pollockgot an infield pop-up to end the game. Pollock struck out 10 in the game. Lindsay Glynn went 3 for 4 and drove in a run, while Kelsey Hamlin and Alexa Enos added two hits each for Heritage (16-6, 9-1 7A-West). Enos also drive in a run.

Fayetteville 6, Springdale High 4

Katy Beth Ezell was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs to help lead Fayetteville past Springdale in 7A-West Conference action on Thursday. The Lady Purple’Dogs trailed 4-1 before rallying with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Heidi Bogle added two hits and two runs for Fayetteville (7-9, 5-4) and Maggie Mabry pitched a complete game, allowing eight hits with five strikeouts.

Greenland 6, Huntsville 2

The Lady Pirates scored four runs in the first inning and held off Huntsville. Macy Campbell was 1 for 3 with a triple for the Lady Eagles.

PREP SOCCER

Girls Shiloh Christian 7, Danville 1

Caroline Bandy scored three goals and Harper Whaley added two more as Shiloh Christian topped Danville. Cierra Clayton and Katie Robinson chipped in one goal each for the Lady Saints (6-3, 5-0).
