El Dia de los Ninos -- Children's Day -- is a tradition of Mexico, but the museum invites people from all backgrounds to join in.
"We want to welcome the entire community to experience art and culture in the community," says Holly York, associate museum educator.
Art activities will be available for all ages to enjoy, she says, and will include making a whimsical wind sock and self-portraits on a 4-by-4 sheet of watercolor paper.
"The self-portraits can be realistic or expressive. We started a mural collaboration project a couple of weeks ago. Our hope is people contribute the self-portrait to the mural, which showcases diversity in the community," York says.
But people will be allowed to take home their work if they choose, she adds.
York says she expects several thousand people to attend.
This year's event include some repeat performers from years past as well as new performers.
"We are continuing to grow this celebration," York says.
The museum will offer free admission to its special exhibition, "The Open Road," on Sunday as well, she says.
