ROGERS -- Samantha Lassiter gets to continue to play a sport she loves in college, while Kayla McCall can do something she returned to as a senior as both signed letters of intent at a ceremony Friday afternoon at Rogers High School.

Lassiter signed to play volleyball at Wentworth Institute of Technology, while McCall inked to be a part of the diving team at Ouachita Baptist University.

The 6-foot-1 Lassiter earned all-state honors as a senior and was a two-time all-conference selection for the Lady Mounties, who lost in the first round of the Class 7A state tournament this year. The coach for the NCAA Division III school located in Boston contacted Lassiter, after he saw some video of her on a national recruiting database.

"My mom and I went up for a visit in November, and I just fell in love with it," Lassiter said. "It's very beautiful, and I've never traveled away from home much and I think it will be a great experience."

McCall enrolled at Rogers in the middle of her junior year, after attending Shiloh Christian. She had done some diving for a club team when she was younger and decided to try it again as a senior. McCall finished fifth at the conference meet and in the top 10 at the state meet this year.

"I improved a lot," McCall said. "A lot of time and practice. I met a lot of new people from different schools. I kind of knew I would go to OBU, but whenever the dive thing happened, it just kind of finalized everything."
