Gators hand Arkansas seventh straight SEC loss

— Florida scored five runs in the fifth inning and beat Arkansas 9-2 Friday.

The Razorbacks (21-14, 4-10 SEC) lost their seventh straight conference game. The No. 2 Gators won the three-game series.

Arkansas hasn't led during its conference losing streak. Florida led 1-0 on Buddy Reed's first inning single before Michael Bernal tied the game 1-1 with a two-out home run in the bottom of the fourth.

The Gators (32-5, 10-4) forced Arkansas starter Keaton McKinney from the game in the fifth. Florida put its first six runners on base in the inning against McKinney and reliever James Teague.

JJ Schwarz, Jonathan Indian and Mike Rivera all had RBI hits in the inning, and India scored on a throwing error by Arkansas third baseman Carson Shaddy.

Schwarz added a two-run double in the sixth to give the Gators an 8-1 lead. Cullen Gassaway's RBI single in the eighth pulled the Razorbacks within 8-2, but Florida added another run on a wild pitch by Arkansas reliever Cody Scroggins.

Logan Shore pitched 6 2/3 innings for the Gators to improve to improve to 7-0. Shore scattered seven hits, struck out four and allowed one run.

McKinney (1-2) allowed three earned runs in four innings. McKinney allowed five hits and walked four. Teague allowed four earned runs on five hits in 1 1/3 innings.

The teams are scheduled to play the series finale Saturday at 2 p.m.
