Gravette man gets life sentence for rape

BENTONVILLE — A Gravette man was sentenced Thursday to life in prison for raping a girl.

The jury found Kevin Lee Reed, 36, guilty Wednesday of rape, a Class Y felony, and sexual assault in the second degree, a Class B felony. The panel found Reed not guilty of another count of rape.

Circuit Judge Robin Green followed the jury's recommendation and imposed the life sentence plus 20 years in prison and ordered the sentences to be served consecutively.

"I believe the sentence is right," Green told Reed. "As a pedophille you preyed on a child. I find you are a danger and threat to the community and this sentence is appropriate."

Reed looked downward throughout the sentencing.

Reed was arrested July 13. A 14-year-old girl reported that Reed sexually abused her since she was in the fourth grade, according to court documents.

The girl testified during the trial and provided details of the abuse to the jury.

Reed did not make any statements before the judge sentenced him.
