Search of White River finds boat but not fisherman

Authorities were searching Tuesday in Monroe County for a fisherman who disappeared Monday on the White River, according to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

The fisherman, whose identity had not been released, went out on the river in Clarendon about 9 a.m. Monday and had agreed to meet up with another fisherman later that day, the commission's spokesman, Keith Stephens, said.

When the missing fisherman failed to show up, authorities were called to the scene about 11 a.m., and a search was initiated in the area of the White and Cache rivers.

His boat was found Monday on the river, though search crews were unable to locate the fisherman, Stephens said.

A spokesman for the Monroe County sheriff's office said the agency was involved in the search but was not able to provide additional information regarding the office's efforts.

Stephens said crews began searching again at sunrise Tuesday and planned to search until dusk.
