Arkansas man found dead on Interstate 30 in North Little Rock

A Fayetteville man was found dead Monday night along westbound traffic on Interstate 30 in North Little Rock, according to Arkansas State Police.

John David Widener, 69, had “multiple injuries” when authorities found him about 9:32 p.m. lying on I-30 at Curtis Sykes Drive, state police said in a preliminary report.

Authorities said Widener is believed to have been struck as a pedestrian by a westbound vehicle whose driver fled the scene on I-30.

No witnesses reported seeing a collision involving Widener, according to the report.

State police spokesman Bill Sadler said an investigation is ongoing into the death.

Widener’s body has been transported to the state Crime Laboratory to determine the manner and cause of death, authorities said.

His death was the 112th reported by state police on an Arkansas road so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
