SPRINGDALE -- A Springdale man was arrested Monday in connection with attempted murder and attempted arson after police say he tried to set his wife and home on fire, according to police records.

Edmund Linka, 50, of 1908 Robyn Road was also arrested in connection with aggravated assault, first-degree terroristic threatening and first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor. He was being held Monday in the Washington County Detention Center with no bond set.

Springdale Police arrived at the home around 8 a.m. Monday because of a domestic disturbance, according to the preliminary police report. Linka was holding a steak knife and had "an assortment" of other knives clipped to his pockets and pants while he talked to an officer "from a distance," the report states. Linka's arm was bandaged and bleeding, which he said was because he broke a window in his garage the day before after his wife, Beth Moore-Linka, locked him in.

The report states Linka told the police he poured gasoline in every room of the house, then on Moore-Linka when she returned from dropping off her grandchildren at school, intending to burn her and himself. Linka was tired of his wife insulting him and said he was in love with his wife's daughter, according to the report.

Moore-Linka's daughter and other relatives tackled Linka, allowing Moore-Linka to escape around the same time police arrived, according to the report.
