Pro rider to pedal at Slaughter Pen Jam

Professional mountain bike rider Jeremiah Bishop of Virginia will participate in festivities at the Slaughter Pen Jam, a three-day mountain bike festival Friday through Sunday in Bentonville.

Bishop, a 14-time USA Cycling National Team member and former U.S. national champion in short track and marathon mountain biking, will participate in several activities over the weekend.

He will race in the pro category of the cross-country race Sunday. Racers who beat his time will receive cash prizes in the Friends At Slaughter Pen Trail Challenge.

"Our team is honored Jeremiah will race in the Slaughter Pen Jam," said David Wright, director of Bentonville parks and recreation. "His attendance speaks volumes of what our city and region have accomplished in the sport of mountain biking.

Jeremiah is a great champion and ambassador for cycling. We encourage all cycling enthusiasts to come to the festival to meet Jeremiah and watch him compete."

Bishop also will take part in an archery biathlon, a youth skills clinic and a question and answer session.

The Slaughter Pen Jam is an annual festival with events for riders and spectators of all ages. In its eighth year, festival highlights include cross-country and downhill races, a biathlon, a kids race, live music and rider education.

Activities take place in downtown Bentonville on Friday and "The Pen," the free ride park at Slaughter Pen Mountain Bike Trail, on Saturday and Sunday. For more information, visit www.slaughterpenjam.com.
