Keedy service set for Wednesday

A visitation for Bill Keedy will be held at 6 p.m. tonight in Newport and a public funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Newport High School’s Greyhound Field, Arkansas State officials said Monday.

Keedy, who served as a high school football coach in Arkansas for more than 20 years, including 19 at Newport, and served 15 seasons as part of the radio team for ASU football games, died Saturday morning at a Little Rock hospital from a stomach ulcer. He was 70.

Keedy is a member of the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame and the Arkansas High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He coached at Paragould (1974-1975) and Sylvan Hills (1976) and 19 seasons at Newport, where he led the Greyhounds to state championships in 1981 and 1991 and had a 175-48-3 record.

An ASU alum, he spent 15 seasons as a color analyst for its football games. He was survived by his wife of 42 years, Jennifer; a son, Billy; a daughter, Mary Kathryn, and two grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be sent to the Red Wolves Foundation, the Newport Athletic Booster Club or the Jackson County Humane Society.
