Antique tackle swap planned in October

Antique fishing tackle enthusiasts can buy or swap items at the 12th annual Arkansas Twin Lakes Antique Fishing Tackle Swap on Oct. 17 at the Ramada Inn in Mountain Home.

Tackle collectors from across the South will be on hand with an assortment of old fishing reels, lures, rods and other fishing-related items.

General admission to the event will be $3, and table rental will be $15. Rooms are available at a discounted rate of $69.

Youth deer hunt

applications available

The Army Corps of Engineers is taking applications for a special youth deer hunt for hunters ages 6-15 on Nov. 7 at Lake Millwood.

The Corps will issue eight permits for youths to hunt deer at Lake Millwood in an area that is normally closed to hunting. The hunt will take place near established food plots, and hunting blinds will be provided.

Applicants must submit a completed application form to the Corps by Oct. 19. A random drawing will be held Oct. 20 to select the eight hunters. Applicants must have parental permission and must be accompanied by an adult assistant that is at least 21 years old on the day of the hunt.

Hunters must provide their own firearms, and they must be able to safely operate their firearms.
