Fayetteville man pleads not guilty to stabbing woman

BENTONVILLE -- A Fayetteville man pleaded not guilty Monday to attempting to kill a woman.

Terrance Billups, 35, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, a Class A felony. He entered the plea Monday afternoon at his arraignment before Circuit Judge Robin Green.

Billups was arrested Aug. 14. He is accused of stabbing Aleasha Lackey, according to court documents.

Rogers police respond to a call at 6:57 p.m. Aug. 10 concerning a woman being stabbed inside her residence at 3701 W. Murdock Lane, according to a probable cause affidavit. Police found a bleeding Lackey on her kitchen floor, the probable cause affidavit states.

A 13-year-old girl at the scene told police Lackey met the suspect on a dating website and he was high on methamphetamine, the affidavit states. The girl said Lackey and the man had been arguing most of the day, and she saw the man stab Lackey in the back with a butcher knife, the affidavit states. The girl said the man stabbed Lackey multiple times until she fell to the floor, according to court documents.

The girl said she threw a tea kettle at the man when he was standing over Lackey with the knife raised as if he was going to stab Lackey again, the affidavit states.

The girl said the man then came after her and her 7-year-old brother, but they were able to dodge the man, according to the probable cause affidavit. The girl grabbed a skillet and raised it to hit the man who then fled the residence, according to court documents.

Lackey had multiple stab wounds to her back. She also had a large cuts on her right thigh and right forearm, the affidavit states.

Lackey had to receive numerous blood transfusions while being treated for her injuries, the affidavit states.

The girl told police the suspect went by the names of Corey, Fred and Terrance, according to court documents.

Police officers were able to interview Lackey while she was being treated in the intensive care unit at Northwest Medical Center-Bentonville, according to court documents. She was able to write the name of her attacker -- Terrance Billups -- and his age, according to court documents.

A omnibus hearing is scheduled for 8 a.m. Nov. 2.

Billups is being held in the Benton County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
