Reddies help Maxfield reach his 100th victory

Henderson State Coach Scott Maxfield picked up his 100th career victory in the Reddies’ (2-1, 2-1 GAC) 25-17 victory at Ranger Field in Alva, Okla.

It was the 71st victory for Maxfield at Henderson State.

The Reddies led 25-3 in the fourth quarter but had to survive two fourth-quarter touchdowns by the Rangers (1-2, 1-2) who got an interception return and and a 55-yard touchdown reception to pull within eight points.

Grady Ollison’s sack of quarterback Reid Miller and Kenrick Burns’ interception closed the door on the Rangers. It was the fifth interception of the game for the Reddies.

Henderson State’s Corey Chappell had a 103-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the game. Lawson Schulz added a a 45-yard interception return for a touchdown for the Reddies.

Quarterback Dallas Hardison was 26 of 41 for 207 yards with 1 interception for Henderson State.

ARKANSAS TECH 24, ARKANSAS-MONTICELL0 17

Arkansas Tech opened a 24-10 fourth-quarter advantage but had to survive a penalty on an onside-kick attempt in the closing seconds to defeat Arkansas-Monticello at Willis “Convoy” Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium in Monticello.

Eric Perez’s 49-yard field goal with 5:40 remaining gave the Wonder Boys (3-0, 3-0 Great American Conference) a 24-10 lead before Hunter Leppert found Cody Bordelon on a 14-yard touchdown pass with 19 seconds left to bring the Boll Weevils (0-3, 0-3) to within 24-17 after Jamie McGee’s extra point.

UAM’s Byron Miller recovered the ensuing onside kick, but the Boll Weevils were penalized for not having enough players on the line. McGee’s rekick went out of bounds to give the Wonder Boys the ball at the UAM 45 where they ran out the final seconds.

Arkansas Tech’s Logan Genz began the scoring with a 67-yard touchdown on a fumble recovery with 11:49 left in the first quarter.

McGee kicked a 34-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 7-3 going into halftime before Leppert found Trey Taylor for a 73-yard touchdown to give the Boll Weevils their only lead of the game, 10-7 with 8:45 left in the third quarter.

Quarterback Arsenio Favor gave the Wonder Boys the lead for good with a 7-yard touchdown run late in the quarter, then found Luke Starks for a 9-yard score with 10:37 left in the fourth for a 21-10 advantage.

SW OKLAHOMA STATE 58, OUACHITA BAPTIST 38

Southwestern Oklahoma State ended Ouachita’s 12-game Great American Conference winning streak with the 20-point victory at ASAP Energy Field in Weatherford, Okla.

The Tigers (2-1, 2-1 GAC), ranked No. 9. in the American Football Coaches Association poll and No. 15 in the d2football.com poll, allowed 549 yards of total offense to the Bulldogs (2-1, 2-1).

Austin Warford finished the night with 165 passing yards and a touchdown for the Tigers. He rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns.

Donelle Hoof rushed for 94 yards and 2 touchdowns and had 3 receptions for 48 yards.

Ke’Vontae Pope had a season-high 8 receptions for 70 yards and 1 touchdown.

Quarterback Marc Evans led the way for the Bulldogs, completing 31 of 46 passes for 365 yards and 4 touchdowns.

SW Oklahoma’s Karltrell Hende led all rushers with 152 yards and 2 touchdowns on 22 carries.

The Bulldogs had four players with at least 62 yards receiving.
