Rogers man accused in drive-by shooting

ROGERS -- A man was arrested Thursday in connection with a drive-by shooting last month.

Jose Pedro Padilla-Gonzalez, 29, of Rogers was being held Friday in the Benton County Jail with no bond set. He was arrested in connection with second-degree discharge of a firearm from a car, a Class B felony, which is punishable with a prison sentence ranging from five to 20 years.

Rogers police were called 11:49 p.m. Aug. 22 to 302 E. Bonnie Lane to a drive-by shooting, according to court documents.

Maria Padilla told police a black Nissan four-door car drove by slowly. She said it was suspicious so everyone went inside the garage, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Padilla said she heard several gun shots and believed it was her nephew, Padilla-Gonzalez, according to the affidavit. Padilla told police a fight occurred that night between her nieces and Padilla-Gonzalez's girlfriend, the affidavit states.

Police officers found three spent shotgun shell casings in the street.

Padilla-Gonzalez told polic her nephew had a rifle and possibly a shotgun. Police later questioned Padilla-Gonzalez, and he admitted firing a shotgun from his car, according to the affidavit. Padilla-Gonzalez demonstrated to police how he fired the gun into the air from the passenger window, the affidavit states.

Padilla-Gonzalez told police he was trying to scare people and never intended to harm anyone, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Prosecutors haven't filed a formal charge against Padilla-Gonzalez. His arraignment is scheduled for 8 a.m. Oct. 26 in Circuit Judge Brad Karren's court.
